Part 2 - M17

The biggest earth-shaker out of Milsig last week, was the announcement of the upcoming M17 marker. A total show-stealer, the M17 can select fire from semi-auto mode to a true mechanical full-auto fire mode. No e-grips. No batteries. No joke. It’s legit!

(This is part two of a multi part story. Click here for part one.)

Combined with their new direct pressure HEAT core, The M17, with it’s mechanical full auto, is not just a head-turner, it’s a game-changer. We are sure there are quite a few marker manufactures that would love to take a peek under the hood of this beast. They are gonna have to wait like the rest of us though. The M17 is not due till this summer.

Want to be a sniper? The M17 is First Strike ready. Milsig has also developed a new 10-round First Strike magazine and new mag-well that accepts both the new FS and standard 20-round mags interchangeably.

It’s not just cool on performance. Milsig put a lot of work into the esthetic too. True MilSim nuts will love the M17’s compatibility with real AR grips and fronts. The improved design also takes full advantage of the space saved by their new HEAT system.

Previous Milsig markers have a gap between the trigger frame and the mag-well to make space for the air line connection to the blow-back valve (similar to an A-5). This gap put the mag-release slightly out of reach. So to compensate, Milsig had developed a mag-release extenuation to bridge the gap and make for a more efficient operation. As effective as it was, the gap was not ideal for those players trying to achieve a more “true” MilSim look. With the M17, this is no longer a factor.

“The M17 eliminates 1) the side air system, 2) the gap between the mag and the trigger…and therefor 3) the mag release extension”

- Doug Brown, Owner, PsiOps (US Milsig Distributor)

“For the first time in MilSim, you can actually achieve sniper quality with a light weight, mobile, and also modular rifle. That is going to be a really big feature for a lot of the milsim players out there.”

- Jacky Chan, CEO, Milsig Canada

Some might be leery of Milsig using a composite body instead of aluminum. The “poly polypropylene” shell might sound like “plastic” but there are poly polypropylene configurations that are actually bullet proof. So don’t slouch on it. This thing feels solid yet also comfortable. Light enough for improved mobility but still enough weight to not feel like a toy. The body compares to that of an HK MP5 or a Glock.

“The only thing plastic on the M17 is the body. I know that a lot of the MILSIG fans are dedicated real steel folks, but having built many a gun in a real steel weapons facility I can tell you what works well when making guns with peak chamber pressures of 10,000 psi is often not what works well when making paintball guns. The air nozzle in the MILSIG is a classic example. The new PP air nozzles are vastly superior to the old aluminum one. Besides. You can always get a Paradigm.”

- Doug Brown, Owner, PsiOps (US Milsig Distributor)

With a price tag starting around $599, the M17 is no entry level marker, but it definitely has the bells and whistles (and looks) to justify the price. If your ready to pick one up, PsiOps has started a pre-order list for the US. You can email Doug Brown here psiworx@gmail.com. Otherwise, if your not quite ready to drop that kind of coin, Milsig still has a lot of K-series deals going on right now on their site.

What?

Desert Tan TiPX: Win. $229 price tag: EPIC FAIL!

How are you going to raise the price on a three year old plastic paintball gun?

We love the TiPX. It’s a great marker and you can do a lot with. We don’t love the price though. We talk to people all the time that would have bought one a long time ago if it had just been a little cheaper. And now the new tan model costs more!

Tippmann was noticeably absent from the mag-fed party last week. They actually had this new model in hand but did not include it in the PBE announcements. Big misteak Tipp’!

Had you announced this model the same time everyone else was showing off mag-fed products, you could have road the buzz-wave and people might have over looked the price. But now, all by itself, you are really letting this stinker shine.

See for your self on the Tippmann store.

Please explain to us, Tippmann, how changing the color on a three year old PLASTIC PISTOL justifies a price hike?

We started a mini “Drop the Price” petition on FaceBook. It’s just a post asking for likes. If it gains traction, we will upgrade it to something bigger. Check it out.

Detail Round Up: Milsig's 2012. Part 1 - HEAT

Milsig has hit it out of the park with a whole slew of new product announcements. We’ve combed through all the information to get the details organized for you in one place. The announcements are impressive in piecemeal but even more so all stacked up together. We have not seen this level of innovation from them since the original K-series was launched back in 2007, and they have just blown it away (literally!)

The hottest announcements include the Paradigm MK2, FXR Pistol Kits and the biggest surprise, the M17 including the new HEAT Core.

We’ve tried to be as detailed as possible but not all specs and prices have been released yet.

The FINAL pricing and product details for the new products will be released via the NEW milsig.com website…which is another week or 2 from completion.

- Nelson Lau, DIRECTOR, Milsig

So until then, this is the next best thing. READ ON!

The HEAT is on!

That brings us to Milsig’s new “High Efficiency Air Technology” or aptly referred to as just “HEAT.” The Heat core is a blow-forward spool valve that can operate at around 500-600 PSI and eliminates the cocking arm. Just gas’er up, safety off, and go! Milsig says the HEAT will require less maintenance and improve consistency and accuracy. HEAT also eliminates all external air lines and runs the air directly out the back of the marker through the regulator in a Milsig Air Through Stock (MATS) system. The best part of all, is that HEAT will be offered as an upgrade for all previous generation Milsig markers.

Historically Milsig has used a “blow-back” valve similar to that found in most Tippmann & BT type markers. These older valves were great for durability and simplicity but not for air efficiency or precision. Not to mention all the hoses you have decorating your receiver body.

SPECS: HEAT (High Efficiency Air Technology)

Blow forward spool valve

500-600 PSI operation

Integrated air line.

Eliminates Blow back!

Less maintenance

More consistency

No more side or bottom air lines.

Direct pressure

Less leak risk

No cocking/charging required

All 2012 Milsig Markers

Retro fit MK1 and MK2 K-Series

PRICE $125 (estimated)

Release Date: by Mid 2012

Look out for more in Part 2 of this story. Coming soon.

Tippmann has been updating their Facebook Timeline to include milestones since their founding. Not everything Tippmann does is of interest to us, but this is! All this talk about “mechanical full-auto” and “air through stock” has been done before.

The 1986 Tippmann SMG-60 is not just the very first “mag-fed” paintball marker. It’s also the very first Tippmann. That’s right. Tippmann started mag-fed paintball and that is all they had.

It’s kind of ironic considering they are mostly silent these days on the mag-fed scene. Yes they have the popular TiPX, but the company does not give it much weight compared to the rest of it’s hopper-fed product line.

Come on Tippmann! bring back the Original Gangster!!!

—-

SMG-60
1986 in Fort Wayne, Indiana
The SMG-60… where it all began. The Tippmann SMG-60 was the first Semi, and Full Auto gun to market. This was also the first gun to have built in constant air. Coupled with a very unique feed system, and .62 caliber paintballs that fired an amazing 600 rpm, this was the most feared paintball gun in the day.
